Who We Are
The Melville Residents Association (MRA) is a community-driven, non-profit organisation dedicated to protecting, enhancing, and maintaining the character and quality of life in Melville, Johannesburg. Established to represent the interests of residents and businesses alike, the MRA is run entirely by volunteers who are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and well-maintained suburb.
What We Do
The MRA actively engages with the City of Johannesburg, local businesses, security initiatives, and other stakeholders to address key concerns affecting our community. We work across multiple portfolios to ensure that Melville continues to thrive while tackling challenges that affect daily life. Some of our key focus areas include:
Urban Planning & Land Use: Ensuring responsible development that aligns with the character of Melville and benefits the community.
Security & Safety: Collaborating with the Melville Security Initiative (MSI), SAPS, JMPD, and private security firms to enhance safety and crime prevention.
Environmental & Public Space Management: Organizing community clean-ups, improving public spaces, and advocating for green initiatives.
Heritage Preservation: Protecting and maintaining Melville’s historic architecture and cultural significance.
Liquor & Business Compliance: Monitoring and managing liquor license applications to ensure they align with community interests and by-law regulations.
Community Engagement & Communications: Keeping residents informed and involved through newsletters, social media, meetings, and digital updates.
