MRA AGM 2025: A Look Back, A Step Forward

On Tuesday, 19 August 2025, the Melville Residents’ Association (MRA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) — a powerful evening of community engagement, reflection, and renewed commitment to the vision of a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive Melville.

Held at Kruisgemeente Church, the AGM brought together residents, business owners, civic partners, and new volunteers who believe in making a difference where it matters most: at home. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the success of this event.

Key Highlights

  • Chairman’s Opening Remarks

A heartfelt welcome by our Chairman who thanked volunteers and reminded the community of our shared vision: a Melville where residents, businesses and visitors coexist with mutual respect and civic pride.

“To those who have tried to intimidate this work—we hear your noise, and it only confirms that we’re on the right path.”

  • Portfolio Reports

Each portfolio lead presented updates from the past year. These included:

    • Liquor enforcement and collaboration with the Gauteng Liquor Board

    • A clean financial audit from our Treasurer

    • Stronger collaboration between the MRA, MBA and MSI

    • Launch of the Adopt-a-Project initiative via our new website

    • Expanded security efforts, legal action, land use objections, and more

  • Julia Fish from Joburg CAN

Our guest speaker delivered an inspiring address on active citizenship and the importance of local participation in holding the city accountable.

  • Call for Volunteers

Four new volunteers signed up on the night — and we are calling on more residents to get involved. If you feel called to serve your community, please reach out. The MRA is powered by people like you.

Our Mission Is Bigger Than Us

The MRA exists to represent the collective voice of Melville’s residents — and that voice is growing stronger each day. Our efforts are not about ego or power. They are about protecting and nurturing the suburb we call home.

If you’re tired of by-law violations, disrespectful business practices, noise pollution, or lack of city accountability — you are not alone. Join us.

How You Can Get Involved

Together, we can turn our vision for Melville into reality.

Because this work is bigger than any single individual — it’s about all of us.
