Melville Residents’ Association AGM 2026

One community. An opportunity to connect, engage and help shape the future of Melville.

📅 Wednesday, 2 September 2026
🕕 6:00pm
📍 Kruisgemeente Church, 45 4th Avenue, Melville

The Melville Residents’ Association Annual General Meeting returns this September, bringing our community together to reflect on the past year, discuss the challenges facing our suburb and look at what lies ahead.

The AGM is one of the most important dates on the MRA calendar. It is an opportunity for members to hear directly from the people and organisations working across Melville, understand what has been happening behind the scenes, and engage on the issues that matter to our community.

This year, we will once again be joined by the Melville Business Association (MBA) and Melville Security Initiative (MSI), while Beagle Watch has also been invited to engage directly with the community.

Most importantly, there will be an opportunity for members to ask questions, raise concerns and engage directly with the organisations represented on the evening.

A Year in Melville

It has been another exceptionally busy year for the MRA.

From ongoing battles around basic service delivery and water security to by-law enforcement, liquor licensing, land use and development, public safety, the physical environment and maintaining Melville’s unique residential character, the committee has continued to engage with residents, City departments and other stakeholders on a wide range of issues.

At the AGM, the MRA Committee and portfolio representatives will report back on their work over the past year, the progress that has been made, the challenges that remain and the priorities we believe require attention in the year ahead.

It is also an opportunity for members to understand the role of the MRA more broadly: what we can do, where our mandate ends, and why an organised and engaged community remains so important in navigating many of the challenges facing Johannesburg.

Hear From the Organisations Working Across Melville

Melville Residents’ Association

The MRA Committee will provide an overview of the past year, including work undertaken across our various portfolios and engagements with the City of Johannesburg and other stakeholders.

We’ll also look ahead to the priorities facing the incoming committee and the community in the year ahead.

Melville Business Association

The MBA has once again been invited to provide an update from Melville’s business community.

A healthy Melville depends on finding the right balance between a thriving local economy and protecting the quality of life of the residents who call the suburb home. The AGM provides an opportunity to hear directly from the MBA about its work, challenges and plans.

Melville Security Initiative

MSI will provide residents with an update on community safety and security in Melville, its work over the past year and the priorities ahead.

Residents will also have an opportunity to engage directly with MSI on security concerns affecting different parts of the suburb.

Beagle Watch

This year, Beagle Watch has also been invited to attend and engage with residents directly.

This provides members with an opportunity to hear from Melville’s main security provider and raise questions or concerns about security operations and services within the suburb.

Your Opportunity to Ask Questions

The AGM isn’t intended to be an evening of presentations where residents simply sit and listen.

We want residents to participate.

There will be an opportunity to engage with the MRA, MBA, MSI and Beagle Watch, ask questions and raise concerns.

Whether your concern relates to security, service delivery, businesses, land use, the physical environment or the general direction of the suburb, the AGM provides a valuable opportunity for direct community engagement.

We may not always agree on every issue affecting Melville, but constructive engagement between residents and the organisations representing different parts of our community is essential.

Why Your Participation Matters

Residents’ associations only work when residents participate.

The MRA is run by volunteers who give their time to advocate for the suburb, communicate with residents, engage government and help coordinate responses to the many issues affecting Melville.

The AGM provides an opportunity not only to hold the committee accountable for the work undertaken during the year, but also to contribute to what happens next.

Melville continues to face significant challenges, but it also remains a suburb with an exceptionally active and engaged community.

Your voice is an important part of that.
